Fox Mountain is the main symbol of Nizhny Tagil and a favorite spot for locals to hike. It offers a beautiful view of the entire city. A small tower has stood at the top of the mountain since the 18th century, but its purpose is unknown. At various times, it served as a fire beacon, an observatory and a chapel. Today, it houses a museum.

The folk craft of lacquering metal trays originally originated in Nizhny Tagil in the mid-18th century. Craftsmen used special mineral paints that adhered well to metal. They depicted scenes from urban life, historical and mythological themes and framed them with bright floral or fruit-and-berry designs.
