‘Mormyshka’ (English: ‘mormyshka’, German: ‘Mormyschka’, French: ‘mormychka’) is an artificial fishing lure with a built-in hook, used primarily for ice fishing in winter. The name comes from ‘mormysh’, a small crustacean that fish feed on. The technique itself is unique to Russian fishing tradition and, along with it, the word has spread beyond Russia’s borders, becoming an international term. Every fishing enthusiast now knows it!
