First-person singular form of the verb ‘спать’ has an extra ‘л’ letter added to the verb stem: ‘я сплю’ (like the verbs ‘любить’ and ‘готовить’, see Unit 10)

Here are some other collocations with the verbs ‘сидеть’ and ‘лежать’: 

• сидеть дома - to stay at home (colloquial) 
• сидеть в интернете - to surf the internet (colloquial) 
• лежать в больнице - to be/to lie in hospital

1. Я весь день сидел дома.
I stayed at home all day.

2. Вечером он сидит в интернете или смотрит сериал.
In the evening, he surfs the internet or watches TV shows.

3. Бабушка заболела и лежит в больнице.
Grandmother got ill and is in hospital.
