7 branches of Russian universities abroad
1. MSU-BIT University in Shenzhen, China
A joint Russian-Chinese university established by Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). Located in Shenzhen, China’s ‘Silicon Valley’. Its main objective is to train young professionals using the best Russian educational programs for the implementation of economic projects of the two countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Courses in core disciplines are taught in Russian by MSU professors. Courses are also available in Chinese and English. The main areas of study include: ‘Russian Language and Literature’, ‘Chemistry’, ‘Physics’, ‘Biology’ and others.
2. Branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Dubai, UAE
This is the most ambitious project in recent years. The Plekhanov University branch became the first Russian state university to obtain a full license for educational activities in the UAE. It trains specialists in marketing, finance and digital business. Graduates receive a diploma from a Russian university and an international diploma from the UAE.
3. St. Petersburg State University in Cairo, Egypt
Students from Egypt can get an education at this SPbU branch. It’s one of Russia’s oldest universities and is renowned for its high-quality education. The university offers programs in ‘General Medicine’, ‘Dentistry’ and ‘Pharmacy’. Most courses are taught in English.
The branch was opened in partnership with the major Egyptian company ‘Modern Group’. Graduates receive diplomas from St. Petersburg State University.
4. Branch of Kazan Federal University in Cairo, Egypt
This branch also offers programs in medicine and pharmacy. Medical students have access to laboratories and classrooms equipped for anatomy and medical physics. Most of the faculty are Russian specialists who conduct classes in English.
5. Branch of Southern Federal University in Havana, Cuba
The branch is located in a historic building of the University of Havana – one of Cuba’s oldest universities. For now, the SFedU branch only offers continuing professional education programs. Students can study the Russian language with SFedU instructors and prepare for admission to Russian universities.
6. Branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
This branch was opened back in 1999 under an intergovernmental agreement between the two countries. Courses at all levels are taught in Russian according to Russian educational standards. Main fields of study are ‘Finance & Credit’, ‘Business Statistics and Analytics’ and ‘International Trade’.
7. The Bolshoi Theatre School in Brazil
The world’s only official overseas school affiliated with the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. It’s located in the southern Brazilian city of Joinville (Santa Catarina state).
The school opened in 2000. Talented children from all over the country study classical ballet there. Classes are held in Portuguese using Russian programs, with teaching provided by instructors from Russia and Brazil. Students are encouraged to learn Russian to better understand the fundamentals of ballet. Graduates perform at the world’s leading theatres, including, of course, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
