Russian Language Exported: CHERNOZEM
This word has no translation – only a transliteration. Because this type of soil is found, for the most part, only in Russia.
‘Chernozem’ (German: ‘Tschernosem’, French: ‘tchernoziom’) is fertile soil. The Russian word, literally meaning ‘black earth’, entered international scientific classifications without translation as the designation for a specific type of soil with a high humus content. This term became part of the terminology of agronomists worldwide thanks to the Russian scientist Vasily Dokuchaev, the founder of soil science.
