Oneheart: How a modest guy from the Russian hinterland became a world-famous musician

At just 19, he’s already recorded tracks with Moby, earned Grammy nominations and broken Spotify records.

Dmitry Volynkin, hiding behind the pseudonym ‘Oneheart’ (VK page), is perhaps one of the most enigmatic musical phenomenons of recent years. His ambient, melancholic tracks have garnered tens of millions of views, yet he himself shuns the spotlight.

A guy from the hinterlands

Dmitry was born in Kirsanov, a small town in Tambov Region on March 22, 2006. His father Ilya Volynkin is a musician known as ‘Leadwave’ (VK page), who also produces electronic music and takes pride in his son’s success.

‘Oneheart’ began composing music at the age of just 11. While browsing music collections on the Russian social network VKontakte, he stumbled upon tracks by Perm-based electronic artist Alexander Maslov (aka ‘Antent’) (VK page) and decided to create something of his own. In 2019, he shared his work during a livestream with Maslov and, although the initial feedback wasn’t entirely flattering at first, they now have collaborative tracks.

Dmitry was drawn to ambient music – an atmospheric genre that perfectly complements the aesthetic of empty night streets, rain against the window and solitary walks. These are exactly the kinds of melodies bloggers love to use in their social media content and they’re the reason Dmitry has gained worldwide popularity.

Breaking into global charts

The turning point came in 2022 when his instrumental track ‘Snowfall’, created with musician Evgeny Chirkov (aka ‘Reidenshi’), unexpectedly went viral on social media. Its hypnotic loops and muted beats resonated with millions of listeners.

‘Oneheart’ now boasts 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, making him one of Russia’s most popular musicians. In Russia, meanwhile, he has 1.8 million monthly streams on Yandex Music (link).

In the Summer of 2025, ‘Snowfall’ was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) (Telegram post). In a letter shared by the artist, it was revealed that this track had become the most decorated in modern ambient music history. To date, ‘Snowfall’ has been streamed nearly a billion times on Spotify.

Collaboration with Moby & a Grammy nomination

His collaborative album ‘Midnight Journey’ (2024) with ‘Antent’ and ‘Dean Korso’ (Konstantin Korsakov), was nominated for a 2025 Grammy in the ‘Best New Age Album’ category. Though the prestigious award ultimately went to another artist, this was a major milestone for Russian electronic musicians.

In July 2025, ‘Oneheart’ shared sensational news in his public channel: he had recorded a track with electronic music legend ‘Moby’ (Telegram post).
"I grew up listening to ‘Moby’. I remember my dad and I playing his albums – ‘Play’, ‘18’ and ‘Hotel’ – when I was a kid. While working on our album ‘Samsara Passengers’, I thought, ‘What if I reach out to Richard and ask if he’d like to collaborate?’"

"A few days later, his team replied that he was very interested in working with us. They even mentioned that ‘Moby’ had heard my track ‘Snowfall’ on a radio station in Los Angeles."
