Kashtanka(1887)
A small dog, a dachshund-mutt cross, gets lost. A stranger takes pity on it on the street and takes it in, naming it ‘Kashtanka’. The new owner turns out to be a circus performer and decides to introduce the dog to performing. During its debut, someone calls out to it – it turns out that her previous owner is at the circus…
Several animated films based on the story have been made in Russia, one of which, directed by Natalia Orlova, won the ‘Nika Award’ for ‘Best Animated Film’ in 2005.
