Leo Tolstoy
The Lady with the Dog(1898)
The plot centers around a love quadrangle. Main character Dmitry Gurov is married, but easily sees women on the side. However, one holiday romance haunts him. It seems this is not just a casual affair, but true love. Returning home from vacation, he constantly seeks new encounters with his lady and her dog…
The story has been adapted for film several times. The most acclaimed movie was directed by Iosif Heifetz and filmed for the writer's 100th birthday anniversary in 1960. It received a special prize at Cannes and a BAFTA in London.
