Ward No. 6 (1892)

Chekhov is considered to be a true master of the short genre. The author of the aphorism "Brevity is the sister of wit" has written over 500 short stories and novellas, translated into over 100 languages and many have been adapted for film.

The novella ‘Ward No. 6’ is dedicated to Dr. Andrei Ragin. From being the head physician of a mental hospital, he became its… patient. Both Russian movie adaptations of the novella have won prizes at international film festivals. Kirill Serebrennikov's version was recognized in Karlovy Vary in 2005, while Karen Shakhnazarov's movie won the prize for best foreign film in Tehran in 2010.
